David’s Thoughts on Pilates
Spinal therapist and acupuncture practitioner at Dao Holistic
“I practice a basic set of Pilates exercises everyday as part of my daily routine. These exercises keep the spine mobile, the spinal muscles subtle and flexible and increase our core strength which is very important for supporting our spine. I thoroughly recommend the practice of Pilates daily to all my patients suffering with back pain and are delighted to be able to recommend Sarah England Pilates instructor and her classes at Clifford House Pilates
Who we are
Clifford House Pilates is a studio aiming to offer a variety of Pilates, Dance & Fitness classes catering for all levels of ability. Whether for those who want to look after their body for every day life or for the elite athlete or dancer wanting to enhance their performance and reduce their risk of injury. We aim to offer classes for all in a relaxed and friendly setting.
What Pilates offers
Pilates offers a workout for all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes. Regular attendance to a pilates class can help improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension. For elite athletes, and dancers, pilates can complement training by developing whole body strength and flexibility, and also helps to reduce the risk of injury.
The goal of a Mat Pilates class is to strengthen the 'powerhouse' a term for abdominals, lower back muscles, pelvic floor, hips and glutes. It is low impact so gentle on joints and means that people recovering from injury can still benefit. While low-impact, Pilates burns fat during and after class, as your muscles continue to shed calories long after class ends. A set of exercises that create lean bodies, strong muscles and help you look after your body at any age.
Combining the principles of Ballet and Pilates this class is carried out standing up without mats. It has all the same core stability practices and is also for strengthening and toning. This class also has a focus on balance as exercises will also be performed in the centre away from the barre.
Join our lovely ‘Staley Swans’ and find out the beauty and benefits of Ballet. Absolute ballet beginners can be graceful, stay fit. Improve muscle tone, and flexibility, exercising mind and body whilst making friends and dancing to beautiful music.

Using exercises from the traditional Mat Pilates class but with a faster pace, higher levels and more intense. This class is only advised if you have a strong understanding of the principles of Pilates posture already and good core strength to start with.
